#1: Hungry Hank Deli
866 Third Ave. Chula Vista California 91910
ph.(619)426-4499
If
you are looking for a great sandwich then Hungry
Hank Deli has got to be on your list. They are located on
Third Ave. between K Street & L Street, right next to the Vons.
I'm sure everyone has driven by this place at least a few times
maybe more. Well stop the car and definitely give this place a
try. They have a wide selection of sandwiches, plus you can pretty
much get it anyway you like. Choose the bread, the fixings, toasted
or not you tell them and the staff will do it right. You can either
get it to go or hang out in their small dining area. They have
one table outside if you want to eat outside. Just an all around
great place to grab a sandwich for lunch. They do offer a breakfast
menu, but I have not tried it yet, maybe next time!
#2: Images of America Chula Vista, the
book
Location: Chula Vista Heritage Museum or
online
This
was going to be on May's favorite five, but it got bumped so I
had to add it to June. Images of America Chula Vista, two local
authors put together a great collection of photos that tell the
history of Chula Vista. I love to look at old pictures of the
city, see if I can guess where the photo was taken. They have
so many historic photos of Chula Vista, some you may have seen
some not even I have seen before. This is a great book to have
in your home if you love history. You can pick it up at the Chula
Vista Heritage museum or by it online. They do sell them from
time to time at the local events, this is a great way to pick
up a copy and get it signed. If you want to read about it more
check out our article about
the book and even see some photos.
#3: Chula Vista car show on Third Avenue
Third Ave. Chula Vista California 91910 Every
Tuesday Night from 5:00pm to 8:00pm
You
know it is summer when the roar of classic engines fills the air
along Third Avenue. Classic cars are on display in downtown Chula
Vista every Tuesday night form now till September 2nd. They start
lining up around 5pm then call it a night at 8pm. This is a terrific
event to enjoy the summer night. Bring the family and stroll along
looking at some great classic cars. They do have theme nights,
so if you love to see motorcycles or maybe lowriders make sure
you check the schedule on our website. Everyone is having a good
time, plus they have giveaways every night and music. I love to
go down grab a burger at Fuddruckers then walk up and down looking
at the cars. Some great classic cars from muscle cars to Model
T’s, people just love to show off their rides.
#4: Otay Ranch Town Center Farmers Market
2015 Birch Road Chula Vista California 91915
ph.(619)656-9100 Every Tuesday 4pm to 8pm
Another
great Tuesday event if you are not into classic cars is the Otay
Ranch Town Center Farmers Market or Eastlake Farmers Market if
you are like me and like to keep it short. They are going on their
first month of having this every Tuesday night from 4pm to 8pm.
Plenty of fresh fruit, flowers, handmade crafts or just watch
local chefs cook a quick and easy meal. I went to the grand opening
of the Farmers Market and the turn out was awesome. People really
missed having a farmers market in Eastlake. They had so much to
see there, plus they gave out fresh cherries. They also have some
great local businesses there selling all kinds of stuff. What
better area to have this then right down the main street of the
Otay Ranch Town Center. If you have not been to the new Farmers
Market then I recommend you stop one night.
#5: Music in the Park concert series
Location: Varies each month Concerts start
at 5pm
Music
in the Park on a Sunday night has just got to be the way to end
a perfect weekend. Can you believe they are going on their 46th
year of having this event? I remember two years ago finding out
about this event and since then I have always looked forward to
attending one or two concerts. This is another totally free event
for the family. Bring the kids, because they have it at a local
park so if they are not into the music they can always run around
the park. The event is perfect for buying some take-out dinner
or you can just make something to bring it with you. Lay out a
blanket or set up a chair and just enjoy the music. The schedule
is the first two Sunday's each month till August. The first concert
is June 8th at the Salt Creek Recreation Center. All concerts
start at 5pm and last about an hour and half. Every month they
have it at a different park so be sure to check
our online schedule so you know were it is. My personal pick
is Fattburger on August 3rd at Memorial Park.
