Pima Medical Institute and the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility unveiled a newly constructed classroom environment and state-of-the-art surgical center with a celebratory ribbon-cutting ceremony held at the Animal Care Facility. A ribbon cutting ceremony took place on Wednesday.

As a result of an ongoing partnership established in 2009 between the two organizations, Pima Medical Institute will provide career training to current and future veterinary science students in its new classroom facilities housed at the Animal Care Facility campus located at 130 Beyer Way in Chula Vista. In addition, Pima students will gain valuable hands-on experience working alongside doctors and veterinary staff in the facility?s modern surgical center, helping promote the well-being of the animals at the Animal Care Facility.

"Pima Medical Institute is thrilled to partner with the Chula Vista Animal Care Facility to provide a new career training outlet in the community," said James Volpe, campus director for Pima Medical Institute's Chula Vista campus. "Our hope is these new facilities will inspire Chula Vistans to follow their passion for animal care and transform it into a fulfilling career as a veterinary assistant or technician."

"The new amenities are a wonderful addition to our Animal Care Facility, providing staff and volunteers with professional resources to continue caring for the animals waiting for adoption," said Mayor Cheryl Cox of Chula Vista. "We value the partnership with Pima Medical Institute and are excited to have an esteemed educational resource develop animal health careers for residents in Chula Vista."

Continuing with the celebration of the new facilities, the Animal Care Facility will host a three-day Animal Adopt-a-Thon, starting Thursday, Jan. 21. Each adopted dog or cat comes with a Pet Starter Kit, including a reusable tote, a free sample of food and information on caring for the new pet, as well as treats and a toy, donated by Petco. Pet Starter Kits will be available while supplies last. Each day of the adoption event will also feature informational seminars designed to provide new owners with tips, tricks and other helpful information on caring for their new pets, such as making the best choice for leashes, collars and crates. Four hourly seminars will be hosted each day in the classroom facility, beginning at 11:30 a.m.
