Every month the Staff of Chula Vista Living picks out the Top Five things they love in the community for that month. Maybe it is a new place to eat, or a great place to take the family. #1 Thanksgiving
Date: Thursday November 27th
 It is that time of year again. Time to get out the loose fitting pants and slide up to the dinner table. The one time of year where you get to load up on all the home cooking you can put on your plate. We can smell it now, roasted turkey, mash potatoes and gravy, oh it is going to be good. Now along with the whole turkey dinner it is also a good time to spend with family. Thanksgiving is the perfect time to sit down to dinner with the family.
#2 Otay Ranch Town Center
Location: 2015 Birch Road, Chula Vista Ca. 91915 (619)656-9100 Now what is Thanksgiving without the day after sales and this month we wanted to pick our favorite shopping mall, the Otay Ranch Town Center. The Ranch as we around here refer to it is going on its second year in the Chula Vista area, can you believe it? Seems like yesterday this spot was a dirt lot off of Otay Ranch Rd. Now we have a top notch shopping center right here in Chula Vista. They have some of the best restaurants in the area; Frida’s Mexican Cuisine, is one of our favorites. The Otay Ranch Town Center also has plenty of stores for the family. Be sure to get there early on November 28th because the crowds are sure to swarm.
#3 Chula Vista Nature Center [More Info]
Location: 1000 Gunpowder Point Dr, Chula Vista Ca. 91910 (619)409-5900 This should have been on our top five list for the summer, but some how it kept getting bumped. If you have not been here then what are you waiting for. This is a perfect day trip for the family and the kids will love it. The Chula Vista Nature Center is located at the bottom of E Street on Gunpowder Rd. Admission is only $6 for adults and $5 for the kids. You can walk around the bay on designated trails or enjoy the many aquariums they have inside. There is also a hands-on shallow-water touch tank where visitors can get up close and personal with rays and sharks. This is truly a Chula Vista gem and if you have not been out there we highly recommend it.
#4 Ono's Cafe
Location: 4154 Bonita Rd., Bonita Ca. 91902 (619)470-6667 It can almost be deemed a hidden gem in Bonita, but so many people are finding out how good Ono’s Café on Bonita Road is. When this place first opened up it was just a little spot tucked into a strip mall. Now it has grown and the owners have done so much to improve this place. The service is always the best and the food is delicious. The menu consist of Hawaiian flavors with items like generous sized wraps and stunning salads, crisp pork Gyaza, and the tempura-panko crusted salmon will have you coming back. The best thing is this is a locally owned restaurant so you might even have your food served up by the owners. If you are looking to try something new for dining out then make sure this is one of your stops. Just like us we know you will put it on your top list for Chula Vista restaurants.
#5 Vista Palms Car Wash
Location: 795 Broadway, Chula Vista Ca. 91910 (619)420-6000 Now here in Chula Vista we hardly ever get rain, we end up getting a drizzle or two that end up making your dirty car even dirtier. For once it would be nice to get a heavy rain enough to total wash off the dirt from our cars. That is why number five on our November list is Vista Palms Car Wash on Broadway and K Street. The owners have just remolded the place and made it even better. If you want to stay way from the machine wash then they offer complete hand washing for your car or truck. They also have a detail center that will make that dull paint job on your car shine like new. Most times we go for the machine wash just to give our cars a nice once over. For only $6.99 you get a full clean package that will put the shine back into your car. They also have coupons that will give you some great upgrades, like sealer wax or car freshener, for a little more. So if the partial rain leaves your cars looking ugly then we recommend Vista Palms Car Wash.
