Guys, here is your reminder that Sunday February 14th is going to Valentines Day. That is less than a week from today in case you forgot, which I hope you haven’t. I like to give my husband a little heads-up at the beginning of the month so he can make those all important dinner reservations. Now guys if you are still not sure of what to do or even get your sweetheart, then let me help you out with some local ideas so that you can be the big winner on V-day! Now before you do anything if you are even planning on going out to dinner Valentines night, you should have already been on the phone to your favorite restaurant to make dinner reservations. Seeing as how Valentines Day falls on a Saturday this year, the restaurants are going to be pretty busy. If you show up with out a reservation then expect a wait, a long wait. Chula Vista has some very romantic restaurants for you to take your special valentines. If she loves watching the sunset as you two sip wine then the South Bay Fish & Grill is your spot. |

As a herald of the spring, the Sweetwater Union High School District Symphonic Orchestra brings beautiful music to the Ruth Chapman Performing Arts Center in its Annual Benefit Concert on March 16 at 7:00pm. Students from schools across the district put in hours of practice alone and as a group in preparation for the Orchestra’s many performances each year including the Benefit Concert. Though this is the 13th Benefit Concert, the Symphonic Orchestra, which was originally organized by Harlan Skinner and Floyd Grant, was started in 1952. Today it continues under the direction of Jim Doyle. In addition to the Symphonic Orchestra, the proceeds of the concert benefit the Bonita Museum & Cultural Center. |

Chula Vista could well be considered the new capital of Sinaloa-style seafood in San Diego County. In recent years, some 20 restaurants have opened that offer the same quality and flavor as their Tijuana counterparts, and some even belong to chains founded decades ago in the state of Sinaloa. And the busy season for these restaurants kicked off this week with Ash Wednesday, the beginning of Lent, a time when Mexican Catholics really go for fish and seafood. In the past, San Diegans had to cross the border to Tijuana to enjoy typical dishes from the Sinaloa coast – characterized by generous use of hot spices and by the freshness of the seafood, especially the shellfish – but a strong demand for this type of restaurants has grown here. |
